GOVERNOR
CRIST SIGNS
PUBLIC
EMPLOYEE PRIORITY BILLS INTO LAW

On June 10, Gov. Charlie
Crist signed into law the two top priority bills of
AFSCME Florida Council 79: HB 887 Career Service Reform
by Rep. Marti Coley (with Sen. Charles Dean) and HB 967
Workplace Safety by Rep. Audrey Gibson (with Sen. Evelyn
Lynn).
“We are pleased that
Governor Crist approved legislation returning fairness
in layoffs and improving promotional opportunities,”
said AFSCME Florida President Jeanette D. Wynn. “The
workplace safety bill begins bringing back the safety
laws for Florida’s public employees.”
In recognition of these
achievements, AFSCME Florida presented the sponsors of
these bills with its Legislative Champion Award: Rep.
Marti Coley for HB 887 Career Service; Sen. Charles Dean
for SB 2202 Career Service; Rep. Audrey Gibson for HB
967 Workplace Safety; and Sen. Evelyn Lynn for SB 652
Workplace Safety. The award presentations were made at
AFSCME Florida’s 2008 political convention in Maitland
last weekend. Read More (HERE)
