New Chief of Staff For AFSCME Florida

Ketha D. Otis has joined AFSCME Florida staff as Chief of Staff, working with President Vicki Hall and elected leadership to build power for working families in the Florida. 

The newly-created position is designed to enhance collaboration, communication, strategy, training and education across the union helping elected leaders, staff and members work together more effectively to organize, mobilize and increase political power.

Ms. Otis has experience in all these roles in her extensive experience with AFSCME Florida. Ms. Otis served as the elected Treasurer of AFSCME-Florida. She is the President of her local of state workers in Miami, assisting members there, while still working in the field to support residents with disabilities to help them navigate life successfully. 

Ms. Otis has been a leader in Council for many years. Prior to her last three years as Treasurer, Ms. Otis served 16 years as Secretary for Council 79 and eight years before that on the Executive Board. 

Through her AFSCME union involvement as chair of Region 3 (South Florida) PEOPLE and the broader AFL-CIO Central Labor Council, Ms. Otis has been working at the intersection of labor and community political organizing. 

The Executive Board elected Ms. Verricka Lamb Treasurer to replace Ms. Otis.
