WFTS Tampa Bay reports:

“As a bus driver these kids become your kids when they’re with you,” President of AFSCME Local 2227 James Hopson said.

Hopson has formed a special bond with the students he takes to school everyday. Though he loves being a bus driver, Hopson said he’s not able to live off his paycheck.

“Gas is up at $4.49 this week," Hopson said. "No, it’s not livable at all. We all have families we have to take care of and it’s not the greatest hours. You have to do extra work to make any hours."

American Red Cross (ARC) workers, including many AFSCME members, are rallying this week in cities nationwide to fight back against mistreatment from their employer and demand a fair contract. The protests are being held in Washington; Lansing, Michigan; Peoria, Illinois; Hartford, Connecticut; Pomona, California; and San Diego.

“Sen. Jason Pizzo has been a champion for Florida’s working families and a vigorous advocate for respect for all members of our community,” AFSCME Florida President and AFSCME International Vice President Vicki Hall said. “We need strong leaders like Sen. Pizzo to protect our collective bargaining and voting rights, and personal liberties from attack, (and we are) proud to enthusiastically endorse his re-election.”
