AFSCME Florida Announces Endorsement of Carlos Gimenez for Miami-Dade Mayor

Miami Springs,FL- Today, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) announced its endorsement of Mayor Carlos Gimenez in his reelection campaign for mayor of Miami-Dade county. AFSCME represents nearly 30,000 workers at Miami-Dade facilities. AFSCME is known as Florida’s fastest growing union, which is part of a 1.6 million member union that advocates for fairness in the workplace, excellence in public services, and prosperity and opportunity for all working families. Members in Miami-Dade county work around the clock caring for all the county’s needs: mosquito control, illegal dumping, caring for abandoned animals, and ensuring that the airport is world class. These duties are conducted with pride and enthusiasm so that all services run smoothly for the citizens and visitors of Miami-Dade.

"We are proud to stand with Mayor Gimenez and we are grateful to have a mayor committed to fighting for our members and our community, and one who keeps his promises to our hard-working County employees," said Andy Madtes, AFSCME Florida Executive Director.

Newly elected AFSCME International Vice President and AFSCME Local 199 president Se’Adoreia Brown shared, “Mayor Gimenez has shown great leadership by implementing regular ‘Mayor’s Summit’ meetings, creating direct communication with our Union and has proved to help resolve departmental issues.  We look forward to continue working with him when he is reelected.”

"I am honored to have the support and endorsement of AFSCME Florida and its thousands of members who work in Miami-Dade," said Mayor Gimenez. "We live in the greatest County in Florida and my campaign is about continuing to move Miami-Dade County forward, focusing on economic growth, innovation, public safety and transportation solutions for all our residents."
