It is hard work, but AFSCME members have always thrived when the stakes are highest.
Yesterday, Thursday June 29, AFSCME Local 871 became the first local to achieve the goal! In fact, they have not just reached the 60% membership threshold but have surpassed it - they are now over 81% and still going! This means that the hardworking men and women of the city of Miami’s Department of Solid Waste won’t see their right to a voice on the job disappear or let management rip up and their contract.

Locals across the state are closing in on the goal, but there is still more work to do. And we have heard time and time again of supervisors who are hoping we come up short. Loss of clock-in grace periods, promised pay raises that will disappear, new workplace safety gear that won’t get ordered, days off taken back and PTO never paid out.
