Today, the members of one of the newest AFSCME locals, Miami Gardens, voted 90% in favor of recertifying their union.

Today, after weeks of mail-in voting, the members and workers represented by AFSCME Local 2526 voted overwhelmingly to recertify their union.

It’s not a secret that drug prices in the United States are rising much faster than inflation. To take but one example: between 2002 and 2013, the price of insulin, a hormone that saves millions of lives every year, more than tripled.

I am a dedicated employee of the Florida School for The Deaf and Blind In St. Augustine, Florida. Not long ago, I was wrongly accused of an infraction on the job and swiftly fired before I was able to defend myself against the accusation.  Needless to say, losing my job at FSDB was a terrifying experience and left me confused and hurt. I love my job and was absolutely certain that I had done nothing wrong so I reached out to my union for guidance. I wasn't sure what to expect but the outcome has left me uplifted and overwhelmed with gratitude.

Unsafe Conditions at State Hospitals in Northwest Florida Continue to Create Health and Safety Hazards for Residents and Workers 

Marianna, FL- One year after Hurricane Michael left much of the Florida panhandle devastated, conditions at two hard hit state run hospitals continue to cause health and safety issues for residents and staff. A recent investigation by federally funded watchdog organization Disability Rights Florida concluded that air quality issues resulting from damage from Hurricane Michael continue to pose a health risk.

AFSCME members have long known one big advantage of joining a union: better wages.

Tallahassee—Workers lined up at the ballot box over their lunch breaks at Florida A & M University on Tuesday to cast their vote in a historic election: the ratification of a contract that was the result of seven long months of impasse with the administration. The hard fought negotiations for a living wage dragged on over the summer amidst a major budget scandal involving the misuse of millions of dollars at the school that led to the resignation of the Chief Financial Officer.

On Sept. 11, 2001, we as a nation faced a tragedy unique in our history. And we promised each other to never forget — never forget those who lost their lives or those who put their lives on the line to save others.
